  Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to have my dog groomed?
It is variable depending on your needs and your pets needs. Drop off and Pick-up schedules will be arranged when booking appointments  with your DIVA DOG stylist.  We also offer a convenient flat rate pet pick-up and drop-off service, and have two drop off times, one in the morning between 7:00am and 9:30am and one in the afternoon between 12:00pm and 1:30pm. Normally dogs are in our salon for half a day, however, it is not uncommon for some of our clients' pets to stay the day. For example drop off in the morning on the way to work and pick up on the way home from work.  Never fear, if your pet(s) need to stay the day they will be pampered while in our care.

Are  vaccines required for my dog?
All of our grooming clients are required to have up to date vaccines, this is for the protection of not only your pets but also our staff.

What type of payment do you accept?
We accept Cash, Debit, Visa and MasterCard.

What information will you require?
Chances are that you have already supplied us with the bulk of your information i.e. address and telephone numbers etc. when booking your first appointment with us, however, at the time of your actual visit you will also be required to sign our grooming waiver form and supply us with any additional information regarding your pets current vaccine status, any missing information and also whether your pet has any medical or temperament issues. If your dog is nervous, has sore hips or a skin condition letting us know beforehand can make your dogs grooming experience easier and more comfortable.

My dog does not like other dogs, can you still groom him?
Of course we can. If you let us know prior to bringing your dog in we can arrange a drop off time so that you won’t have to deal with other dogs in the reception area. Our dogs are in the salon but they can be put in their corral so they will not be in your dogs way.

How much will it cost to groom my dog?
We price according to the breed, temperament, size, what type of trimming  requested, and if there are any specialty needs involved. We can give you the average cost for your type of dog, and we will confirm the charges when you bring your dog in for his appointment.

Does my dog have to go in a cage?
For the safety of all our clients yes your dog will be required to be kenneled or placed in a doggy yard with other suitable pets. Our pets don’t spend a lot of time in their condos. They are bathed,  dried and given a rest break. Our stylists then completes the groom where they are one-on-one on the table with their stylist. Once finished they are returned to their condo, proceed to the divatography room or to the doggy yard to await pick up. Pets staying longer get a complimentary mid out. It is a common occurrence for our pets to be relaxed enough and sleep the entire time they are in their condo or yard.

How long have you been grooming?
Donna has been grooming over 35 years and Jenny her apprentice has been grooming for over 2 years now.

What if my dog is very nervous etc.? Do you sedate dogs?
Please let us know when you are bringing your dog in if  he/she is nervous, has medical needs, sensitive, aggressive, senior or any other conditions pertinent to their grooming.
It is our common practice to work with and train your pets to co-operate in the grooming process by using gentle calm assertive handling techniques,  lots of love, encouragement, and patience. We have been working with pets for many years and like to take our time with each and every dog.  We are well known for working with senior, sensitive, difficult, aggressive and fearful pets. Many times we can gain their trust with a combination of desensitization training, sedation and gaining our trust, however we do need to work with you and your vet to help your pet. Here at Diva Dog we take pride in the fact that we will try to work with dogs all other groomers will NOT - as someone needs to attend to the grooming of these troubled furry babies. They sometimes need sedation in the form of tranquilizers or calming agents. We can counsel you as to what would be most effective. It is a special technique and needs co-operation between groomer, owner and vet. As we work with your pet, the hope is that once trust and rapport is built, we can eventually and successfully wean them off their need to be medicated. Unfortunately, we have experienced that in some cases not all pets can be weaned as they can not get past the memory or previous bad experience, either by abuse or grooming mishandling, and will always required some form of artificial calming or sedation. But, at least we are here to give every opportunity to help them realize grooming should not and does not hurt.

How often should my dog be groomed?
It depends on what breed, the clip you choose, your at home grooming, and their activity level. We commonly recommend every 4 – 6 weeks. Pets  that are groomed on a regular basis are more relaxed with the grooming experience, have less skin and coat issues as their coats and skin are kept in top condition.

Do you groom cats?
Yes we groom cats.

My dog only needs his nails trimmed do I need an appointment?
We don’t require appointments for nail trims but we do request that you either give us a quick call or bring your pet in after 9:30am so that we can admit our scheduled grooming dogs.

We just got a new puppy when should we start grooming her?
We recommend getting puppies started as early as possible between 10 -12 wks old, as this is the time when they easily learn not to be afraid and there is less chance of bad experiences happening, which lead to pets requiring sedation. We also suggest that you start brushing your puppy everyday and getting them used to having their paws and face handled.

I don’t want bows or bandanas on my dog.
Please let us know when dropping off and we won’t put them on.

The last groomer shaved my dog, you won’t do that will you?
We will examine your pets coat when you come in and make our recommendations on the best way to proceed. We pride
ourselves in our ability to save a pets coat in certain circumstances and prefer to keep your dog looking their best. If however your pet is very matted we may have no choice but to shave-down your pet short and start afresh. We will then suggest setting up a regular grooming schedule to keep your pets coat in top condition to prevent future matted pet shave-downs.

Can I stay with my dog during his grooming.
Due to insurance issues owners are not permitted to stay with their pets. You are however more than welcome to wait in our
reception area especially for you senior pet while we take care of your baby from start to finish. We do request that you stay out of sight of your pet as it can be very upsetting for them to see you - many times your pups are better behaved for us as "familiar" strangers than their own parents.

Do you use heat dryers to dry my dog?
We do use stand dryers for fluffing and taking the damp off after using a high velocity dryer which uses only room temperature air. Our stand dryers circulate warm and cool air so the temperature never gets extreme. At Diva Dog we do groom pets that are terrified of the velocity dryer and by using the stand dryer we are able to provide the owner with the same results as a velocity dryer without causing stress for the pet. Our kennel dryers are also room temperature only so there is no chance of your dog becoming overheated.
